
It was the fall heard around the world. The Chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) fell from a forklift as he was being hoisted on stage at a rally, and sustained serious injuries. While his ‘Naya Pakistan’ campaign had already ignited a spark of patriotism among the disillusioned public, the stirring speech that he made from a hospital bed following the fall cemented a political fervor among the youth and strengthened the resolve of many voters who were up till that point ambivalent about voting. The PTI did not receive enough votes to form a majority, but undisputedly emerged as a prominent player in a field which has historically been dominated by two major political parties for the better part of the last 25 years.
